Mission Statement

The Saint John Arts Centre advances the culture and economy of greater Saint John, by providing critical infrastructure for the growth and development of the arts. By incubating and developing talent, the Arts Centre strengthens our community by fostering connections and collaboration, locally and beyond.

  • The Saint John Arts Centre is an inclusive, not-for-profit, charitable organization that fosters programming in the following areas:
  • An exhibition schedule in five galleries
  • Workshops in visual arts
  • A Performing Arts Schedule
  • Community, Social and Ceremonial Events
  • Youth Development and Out Reach Programs
Board of Directors

We are seeking candidates who are committed to arts and culture, and who are excited to be part of a Board of Directors that represents Greater Saint John.

The Saint John Arts Centre’s Board of Directors serve a term of three years, and must be at least 19 years of age. These volunteer positions work in a collaborative environment to advance the Saint John Arts Centre’s mission and vision through various committee-run projects. The Board is made up of artists, administrators, and members of the public who contribute experience and enthusiasm in fundraising, financial management, administration, and technical expertise to our successful operation.

Responsibilities
  • The general duties and responsibilities of Board members, including officers, are to:
  • Determine the organization’s vision, mission and mandate, in collaboration with the Executive Director;
  • Guide the organization on the road to achieving the vision, mission and mandate;
  • Board members are asked to take out a yearly membership;
  • Attend Board meetings that are currently held on the third Monday of each month from 6:00-7:00pm (meetings are suspended during the summer months and in December). Board members must read the material provided before each meeting (minutes, agenda, and any other pertinent documents) and pass on any items to be added to the agenda to the Secretary in a timely manner. Board members who miss three consecutive board meetings shall be deemed to have resigned from office;
  • Board members are asked to sit on at least one committee.
  • Members are expected to attend or participate in at least four events a year;
  • All members are required to prepare for and attend the Annual General Meeting;
  • Recruit and hire the Executive Director;
  • Review Executive Director’s performance;
  • Ensure adequate resources, participate in fundraising projects and other development initiatives;
  • Enhance the organization’s public image;
  • Seek corporate and sponsorship funding opportunities;
  • Represent the organization publicly when required;
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and other sensitive organizational issues.
