Workshop Description

Let the threads of imagination weave magic in your hands as you join tapestry artist, James Nightingale, a senior New Brunswick weaver with 35 years of experience in this field. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced weaver, this 4-week workshop provides you with the opportunity to express your unique vision, weaving together landscapes or abstract designs. Using the weft-faced French Gobelin technique, you will learn how to warp your own small frame loom, weave simple shapes and lines while exploring colour, pattern and texture, creating a tapestry sampler and then making a small format tapestry.

About your Instructor

James Nightingale has practiced the ancient textile art of tapestry weaving for over 35 years.  James finds inspiration for his tapestry by observing nature, photographing landscapes, drawing and painting, and then translates his images into cloth though the use of natural fibres like linen, silk and wool.  James graduated from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in 1991 with a major in Textiles, under the guidance of master textile artist, Susan Vida Judah.
