The Art Room: Create with Clay (Oct. 2023)

Please note that masks are mandatory for this workshop.

Workshop Description

People have been making things from clay for at least 30,000 years! In this workshop with Alison Gayton, students will learn how to use hand building techniques to create all sorts of things, from textured ornaments, to a cool animal pinch pot, and a hand carved bowl using the ancient ‘coiling’ method for making pottery. They will learn about different ways that people create things with clay, and all sorts of fun facts!

Topics covered in the course:

  • Hand-building and sculpting
  • All about texture: making stamps and using textures and slab building
  • Learning about hump-moulds and decorating with underglaze
  • Sgrafitto

All materials are provided within the workshop fee, and students should wear an apron or old shirt.
