Intro to Hand Built Clay Objects

Workshop Description

In this 6-week introduction to hand building workshop, students will learn a variety of techniques and approaches to working with clay which can be used to make sculptural or functional work. This class is appropriate for beginners and those with some clay experience looking to enhance their existing skills.

Age group: Adults

Time: Saturday afternoons, 1pm-4pm

Dates: March 25, April 1, 15, 22, 29, May 6, 2023 (Skips April 8, Easter weekend)

Duration: 6 weeks

Fees: $275 (includes instruction, clay, use of tools and equipment, glazing and firing of finished pieces)

Skill level: Beginner/Intermediate

Capacity: 6 students

About your Instructor

Alana Lea Wilson completed her MFA at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and her BFA at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her 20s and 30s were spent working seasonally as a tree planter and then a fire tower lookout, and travelling. She’s done residencies in Canada and Australia, and spent two years living in Mexico, learning Spanish. In 2020 she received a create and Explore grant from the Canada Council of the Arts. Her work explores ideas around memory and nostalgia, longing and belonging, and her ongoing search for a home. Currently she is the ceramic centre coordinator at AX Arts and Culture Centre in Sussex, NB.
