SJAC welcomes new instructor, fibre artist Renata Britez! Learn about needle felting techniques in a friendly and relaxed environment. Get to know the basics of this unique technique by learning how to manipulate wool in three dimensional forms and creating beautiful animals with Renata.
In this workshop students will learn how to make a beautiful felted bunny that can be used as decoration or to give as a gift. Students will finish this course with a complete piece and base knowledge to apply in future projects.
This beginners’ workshop is appropriate for adults and youth 16 years and up.
What will be covered in this course:
– Basics of needle felting techniques
– Safety procedures in needle felting
– Essential tools for needle felting
– Different types of wool for needle felting
– Blending colours with wool
– Finishing techniques
Students will purchase a material kit from the instructor on the day of the course for $30
(Square is available to pay by card.) Material kit includes everything you need to make your bunny and tools to take home:
– 1 felting pad
– 2 felting needles
– core wool
– Merino wool (black, brown, pink, white)
– List of suppliers
– Felting techniques booklet

In the unfortunate event that the local Saint John Zone must ‘move back’ to stricter social distancing policies and workshops must be cancelled, participants will be refunded for cancelled classes.

One day workshop: Saturday, March 20, 2021 • 9am to 4pm (1 hour break for lunch) • Cost: $55 (pay instructor additional $30 for all supplies on the day of the workshop)
About the Instructor:
Renata Britez is a Multidisciplinary Artist originally from Brazil and based in Fredericton, NB. She graduated from NBCCD Textile Design Program, and from Advance Studio Practice in the same institution. In past years Renata has explored natural dyes techniques and tridimensional sculptures using felting techniques. Renata’s work has been shown and sold across the Maritimes.
Renata travels to teach textile workshops around the Region. In the past year she taught in various festivals and events including the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival, Edventures and NBCCD LEAP Summer Workshop Series at Kings Landing.
