Copperplate Etching – March 2021

Join Nathan Cann the printmaking studio for a fun but thorough two-day workshop in copperplate etching. During the course of the workshop, you will etch a copper plate, learning the techniques for how to prepare, etch, and finish the plate, transfer drawings, and pull prints. Classes are limited to only six participants for plenty of workspace and instruction time. All supplies are included.

Important Notes: Please prepare a drawing or drawings for the first day of class or have an idea of the imagery of your print. Plates will be 5″ x 7″ in size.

COVID-19 POLICY NOTE: As a public building, SJAC must follow the Government of New Brunswick’s Public Health guidelines on the coronavirus. In the unfortunate event that the local Saint John Zone must ‘move back’ to stricter social distancing policies and classes must be cancelled, participants will be refunded for the remaining classes.

Please note that community face masks are required in class.

NEW DATES: Saturdays, 1pm-4pm, March 13 & 20, 2021 (2 weeks) • Cost: $150 (All supplies included) • Maximum: 6 students

About the Instructor:

Nathan Cann is a Maritime-born artist who dabbles in new media and experimental chemical printmaking both green and toxic. After finishing his undergrad at Mount Allison University, New Brunswick; and receiving the BMO Art1st Provincial award, Nathan left the Maritimes to witness the rest of Canada and explore new merits outside of artistic practice. Current work focuses on the haunting of lands, particularly within the Maritimes, by means of monotypes and industry.
