Meet our Instructors: Maggie Higgins

Maggie Higgins is an artist and educator from Saint John, New Brunswick. She began working with the Saint John Arts Centre in 2010 as an intern and has continued to interact with the centre in a number of capacities in the last decade.

After finishing a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Mount Allison University and a Bachelor of Education from UNB, Maggie became an instructor with the Saint John Arts Centre. Since 2016 she has taught a number of courses including Drawing Basics, Beyond Drawing Basics, Art with Maggie, Art in Action, and Portfolio Development Painting.

In 2018, Maggie joined the Saint John Arts Centre’s staff full time as Education & Outreach Coordinator, and in the fall of 2019, with SJAC’s new partnership with NBCCD, she became Foundation Visual Arts instructor in Drawing and Art History.

In her career as a professional artist, Maggie also had the opportunity to exhibit in many group shows at the Saint John Arts Centre. She is currently represented by Buckland Merrifield Gallery. Maggie is passionate about the arts community of Saint John and is proud to volunteer with great local organizations like Third Space Gallery and L’Arche Creative Connections. If she’s not greeting visitors at the Saint John Arts Centre, Maggie can usually be found painting in her studio or hiking with her Greyhound, Goose.
