Photography Basics

In this 6-week course, participants will learn the fundamentals of photography including basic camera functions such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings. There will be opportunities to create images on a weekly basis that explore shooting in manual mode in various lighting conditions. Some avenues of photography that will be explored include portraiture, still life and street photography. In addition, there will also be instruction for basic post-processing of images. Learn to colour correct, make lighting adjustments and export your images at the proper dimensions best suited for uploading to the web and making prints.

Please note: Students interested in taking this course must provide their own digital camera and lens with the camera’s ability to shoot in manual mode.

About the Instructor

Nienke Izurieta received a B.Sc. degree in Photography in 2010 and moved from Philadelphia to Saint John in 2012 as a Teaching Artist for Sistema NB. Her primary focus in photography is exploring the intricacies of portraiture through medium format film. With a love for visual storytelling and an innate sensitivity to light, Nienke is inspired to create photographs that evoke emotion leaving the viewer with a sense of nostalgia and mystery. In her latest work, she explores movement and texture resulting in images that are both ethereal and evocative.
