The Art Room: Clay Works

[
IMPORTANT COVID POLICY UPDATE

As of Monday, February 28/22, visitors to SJAC will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination.

Please note that out of an abundance of caution, SJAC will continue to keep a mandatory mask policy in place for all programs (workshops, galleries, performing arts events, rental events) after the Public Health restrictions are lifted on March 14/22. We will continue to monitor and reassess in the coming weeks.

Workshop Description

This workshop follows on the lessons in The Art Room’s ‘Create with Clay’. Learning the ancient practices of making clay objects will result in students creating a slab and coil flower pot and mug, scratching into the surface and adding various textures. Students will learn how to add sculptural elements to their work, and they will also be introduced to ‘throwing on the wheel’ as an experiential learning project.

Topics:

  • Hand-building and sculpting
  • All about texture: making stamps and using textures and slab building
  • Decorating with underglaze
  • Throwing on the wheel
