Sewing: Paper Piecing Quilted Pillow

Join Margo for a three week quilting course and learn the technique of paper piecing! Paper piecing is a popular technique that creates fun patterns by sewing fabric to foundation paper. You can choose between two options of creating a Canada Day pillow or an adorable Ice Cream pillow! (You can certainly try your hand at both if you wish!)

Skill level: Beginner

Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30pm • April 2, 9, 16, 2019 (3 weeks) • Cost: $50 (supplies not included, see below)

Materials required:

quilted pillows based on the Canadian flagCanada Day pillow:

  • 1 metre of red fabric or print for backing and sides of flag
  • 1/2 metre of white cotton
  • piece of cotton batting  a bit larger than the size of the pillow form
  • rectangular pillow form
  • zipper the length of the pillow form
  • thread
  • Optional: 3-4 fat quarters of a variety of red prints if you wish to have a maple leaf like the sample in the photo.

  • 2-3 fat quarters for the ice cream scoops
  • 1 fat quarter of a beige print for the cone
  • 0.5o metre of background fabric
  • 0.75 metre of print for backing of the pillow
  • piece of cotton batting a bit larger than the size of the pillow form
  • square pillow form
  • zipper the width of the pillow form
  • thread
Additional supplies and tools:
  • Sewing machine and basic accessories (bobbins, pins, shears, etc.)
  • *We will have cutting mats, rulers, & rotary cutters available to use
