Portrait Sculpture – OLD

clay portrait sculpture of a young woman

‘Claudia’ – Melissa Kennedy

SJAC is thrilled to welcome back classically-trained artist and educator Melissa Kennedy! This summer, Melissa offers a special week-long portrait sculpting course. Combining demos and lots of hands-on sculpting time, students will work through observing a live model.

Melissa will help you to make the most of time-tested classical methods in sculpting the human face:
– setting up a portrait in clay
– establishing a consistent perspective
– finding ‘points of truth’
– looking for structure and likeness in a portrait
– how to look for and map out forms
– setting up symmetry in three dimensions
